Gabby "Champ" Brown, a visionary and dynamic leader hailing from Washington, D.C., has dedicated over two decades of her life to the transformative power of dance. Her journey began at the age of six, when she first discovered her deep passion for movement, a passion that would shape her personal and professional life.
Throughout her impressive career, Champ has honed her craft and built a rich legacy, performing with renowned professional dance companies across the DMV (D.C., Maryland, and Virginia) region. With more than 25 years of experience, her expertise spans multiple genres, with a focus on hip-hop dance.
In 2006, Champ expanded her influence by founding Dance Explosion, a groundbreaking dance company created in partnership with DC Parks and Recreation. This initiative was not just a creative endeavor but a community-driven project designed to offer young people, especially those in under-resourced areas, a free, supportive environment to develop their dance talents. Through Dance Explosion, Champ provided an invaluable resource for inner-city youth, giving them a platform for self-expression and growth through the art of dance.
Recognizing the importance of mentorship and community, Champ went on to launch the Ladies Growing Together program, a mentorship initiative designed to empower young girls to thrive both personally and artistically. By fostering an environment of support and development, Champ’s program focuses on instilling confidence, leadership, and emotional resilience in the next generation of female dancers.
In April 2016, Champ's entrepreneurial spirit led her to establish xCel HipHop Performance Company, LLC, where she currently serves as Founder and CEO. Under her leadership, xCel HipHop has grown into a prestigious institution that provides professional training and performance opportunities for dancers of all ages. Champ’s mission is to use dance as a means of self-expression, helping individuals to connect with their emotions and develop a stronger sense of self-worth. Through xCel, she continues to empower both adults and youth, guiding them toward personal growth and artistic excellence.
Champ’s work is more than just about dance; it is a reflection of her belief in the profound impact of mentorship, emotional growth, and community engagement. As a mentor, choreographer, director, and entrepreneur, her unwavering commitment to uplifting others has cemented her place as a trailblazer in the dance world and a true advocate for the power of the arts in shaping lives.
